Daniel Ray "Danny" Black, 77, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. He was born on May 24, 1948, in Morgantown, WV to the late Frank and Freda Black.
Danny worked at Petitto Mine Equipment for 35 years as the Supply Clerk Manager. His career was a testament to his work ethic and integrity.
He was a 1967 graduate of St. Francis High School where he lettered in football and was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan. His passion for athletics laid the foundation for a lifelong appreciation for teamwork and camaraderie.
Danny took great pride in serving his country as a member of the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Recovery.
Since moving to his farm along White Day Creek in 1976, Danny embraced the life of an avid outdoorsman. He found joy in caring for his 32-acre property, where he cultivated both the land and cherished memories with family and friends.
Danny is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Kerry Black; son, Jason Black of Morgantown; daughter, Katy Phillips, and son-in-law, Drew Phillips of White Day; daughter, Emily Black also of White Day; and sister, Lana Shale of Florida. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Kirk Black of Morgantown, and Arwin and River Phillips of White Day. Additional survivors include his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kris and Ken Potter; nephews, Jeff Black and Jonah Lilly; nieces, Kelly Curry, Sarah Potter, and Anna Potter; and his faithful K9 companion, Dash.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Franklin C. Black; mother and father-in-law, Reba and Walter Kirk; and brother-in-law, Charles Kirk.
Danny lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a profound love for the outdoors. His legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.

Hastings Funeral Home & Omega Crematory have been entrusted with arrangements. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
