Daniel Buchanan Obituary
Dan graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a degree in metallurgical engineering and worked his entire career at Teledyne Brown Engineering. He retired in 1998.
Dan and Maryetta Propst were married in Clanton, Alabama in 1963.
Dan is survived by his wife, Maryetta; children, Danny (Jana), J.E.P., (Sheri) of Huntsville, Alabama, and Mary Shea Gaston (Jackie) of Albertville, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Daniel Buchanan (Laura), Carter Buchanan of Huntsville, James Buchanan of Huntsville, Nate Buchanan (Kat) of Birmingham, Anna Chason Buchanan of Huntsville, Morgan Gaston Kreger (Cale) of Birmingham, Virginia Gaston Hagood (L.T.), and Abigail Gaston of Albertville; great-grandsons, Penn Timothy Kreger and Lynn Thomas Hagood III, due to arrive on Dan's birthday; brother, Jim Buchanan (Janet) of Unicoi County, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Milam Propst of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.
Dan was predeceased by his parents, Daniel Masby Buchanan and Mary Horton Buchanan of Big Stone Gap, VA; brother, Phil Buchanan of Greenback, Tennessee; and his brother-in-law, Jamey Propst (Milam) of Atlanta, Georgia.
Dan was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, artifacting and spelunking, as well as many other interesting activities. He especially loved hunting with his brothers, his children, and his grandchildren at the family farm in Nicholsville, Alabama. He hunted every year for over 60 years at the farm and was considered the hunt master of the camp. He was also an avid collector and reader of books. He enjoyed carrying on a spirited conversation on many subjects, especially all subjects related to history.
He loved to quote favorite poetic verses such as, "O wad some Power the giftie gie us to see ousels as ithers see us" by Robert Burns.
Most of all, he believed that his grandchildren are his greatest legacy.
No local services are planned A graveside service will be held at a later date at the family cemetery in Nicholsville, Alabama.

I worked with Dan for for quite a few years at Teledyne. I owe him a lot for he took me under his wing as I was a young military retiree and new employee. He advised me how to navigate the bureaucracy. Eventually I worked for him in SETAC. He's a good man and will be missed by all! My deepest sympathy to Maryetta and family!

Deepest sympathy to Maryetta and Danny, J.E.P., Mary Shae and their families. Dan became a great friend at work, favorite lunch companion in the TBE cafeteria. Such an all around wonderful guy! So many interests! Loved seeing him after we had retired at the ROMEOs when the ladies were invited. :)
