Daniel Burgei, age 75, of Zionsville, passed away on March 2, 2025, following complications from surgery and a broken heart. Born on February 15, 1950, in Kendallville, Indiana, Dan was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and a respected figure in his professional life. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Debbie who passed away in November.

Dan graduated from Indiana University with both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. His career was defined by service, first as Chief of Police, and later as a professor at Vincennes University. He retired as Dean of the University, leaving behind a legacy of education and leadership.

Dan was a passionate sports fan, especially cheering on the Hoosiers. Throughout his life he was an avid golfer and marathon runner. In his free time, he loved to read, always seeking knowledge and new perspectives. Despite his long battle with Parkinson’s disease, he faced his health challenges with strength and determination.

Dan is survived by his children, son Chris Burgei (Kim) and daughter Jennifer Sproull (Nick), and his cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Zoe, Max, and Ella. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation or Vincennes University Foundation.
