Richard Allen "Rocky" Eubank, cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed into heaven, his eternal home, on January 29, 2026, in
Austin, Texas. Born on April 6, 1929, in Spurlington, Kentucky, to John Clyde Eubank and Marie "Mame" Bowles Eubank, both of whom preceded him in death, Rocky's journey through life was marked by a love for his Savior, Jesus, honor, dignity, service, and a steadfast love for his family, church and country.
A proud patriot, Rocky was a valiant veteran, dedicating 30 years of his life to the United States Air Force. A Tactical Fighter Pilot, he exhibited unwavering courage and skill in the cockpit of the F-100 and F4 aircraft. His 339 missions over the skies of Vietnam spoke volumes of his commitment and bravery, earning him the Distinguished Flying Cross alongside numerous other medals, honors, and awards from both the Air Force and Marine Corps. He retired in 1981 after serving as Director of Operations and Vice Wing Commander. Post-retirement, he remained connected to his military roots through his membership with "ACES," the American Legion, the Order of Daedalians, and as President of the 31st Fighter Officers' Association.
Rocky's quest for excellence began early as the Valedictorian of Ligonier High School's class of 1947. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business from Indiana University in 1951, followed by a Masters in Business Management from The George Washington University in 1972. His intense love for sports was a part of his legacy. He played basketball and baseball throughout high school, college and into his military carrer. In Spain he became an avid golfer and his love for the sport continued into his has month on earh where he would putt and follow Teri around the course in his golf cart. In 1976 upon being transferred to Bergstrom Air Force Base, Rocky became a now life long Lady Longhorn Basketball fan as well as the men's Longhorn Baseball fan. He rarely missed a home game. Whatever Rocky did, he did with all of his heart. Rocky was actively involved in the Longhorn Foundation and served as President of the Onion Creek Homeowners Association and supported the Women's Golf Association of Onion Creek Golf Course.
It was on the Methodist Walk to Emmaus around 1985 when Rocky came face to face with Jesus in a small chapel and was forever changed. A humble and quiet man, seeing Jesus was difficult for him to speak about up to his last days on earth. He would become overwhelmed with emotion when he spoke of Jesus reaching out his hand toward him. Rocky's Christian faith was at the center of his life; he was a pillar in the Manchaca United Methodist Church community. He served as a Conference director for Lay speakers for ten years, was a delegate to the UMC Jurisdictional conference, and acted as the Director of Evangelism for five years. His service was not just limited to the ecclesiastical sphere. Rocky never missed a pancake bake sale, selling pumpkins, poinsetta or any othere venture at his Church. He and Ann were at the Manchaca United Methodist church close to it's inception and were very involved in being a part of the building of the church. When you look at the stained glass window in the front of the church with Jesus and the sheep, remember our dad ~
With a heart as expansive as the Texas skies, Rocky's life was a touching symphony of kind gestures, selfless acts, and a faith-filled existence that inspired all who knew him. He was a beacon of integrity and a testament to unwavering strength, ever willing to lend a helping hand. Until the past few years, Rocky was active in visiting people who were in the hospital or bedridden. He loved to pray with people and would wait patiently at the front of the church after service well into his 90's should ther be someone who needed prayer. Richard Allen Eubank leaves some big Texas sized boots to fill. It is an honor to call him our father and our friend.
Rocky's departure from this world leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched. He now rests with Jesus, his wife Ann, the many family and friends who have preceded him, and the heavenly host. His mission on earth completed with valor and virtuousness. Rocky will continue in the many lives he changed while here on earth and will always be cherished by those who loved him. As we commend Rocky into heaven, we reflect on a life well-lived, and a faith well-kept.
Predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Ann Whisenhunt Eubank, Rocky's legacy of love and honor is carried forward by his surviving family. He was a devoted father to Lisa Alyn, Teri Eubank and Gina Butcher, Rick Eubank and Jennifer Eubank. His memories will be treasured by his grandchildren Elizabeth Shahan, William Alyn, Trey Eubank, and Jill Eubank. His sister Pat Hollander and nephews will hold dear his memory.
Let us celebrate the legacy of Richard Allen "Rocky" Eubank, whose life was an embodiment of the scripture, "Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your lord." (Matthew 25:23).
