Daniel R. Burkett

1950 - 2026

Daniel R. Burkett, 75, of Lower Burrell, passed over into the presence of the Lord on Feb. 9, 2026, after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loved ones. He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. He lived a life of faith and honor to his family. He was born in New Kensington on July 20, 1950, to the late Richard and Eleanor Simko Burkett and had been a lifelong resident of the area. He worked at Allegheny Ludlum for 36 years until retiring in 2006. He loved taking walks in the woods with his granddogs, riding in his side-by-side, attending church, and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He had a big personality; he made everyone laugh, and everyone loved being around him. His family and grandchildren will always cherish the many memories they made at his home in Deep Creek, MD. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gail A. Bliss Burkett; two children, Heidi (R.C.) Schultz of Lower Burrell and Gabriel (Candi) Burkett of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren, Hannah Schultz, Skylar Burkett, Nathan Schultz, and Damian and Evey Richards. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Sroka. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at RUSIEWICZ of LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder St., where prayers of transfer will be said at 9:30 a.m. Friday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 1125 Leishman Ave., New Kensington.
