Daniel J. Butkus

Daniel J. Butkus, 78, of Waterbury, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.

Daniel was born in Waterbury on February 18, 1947, a son of the late John and Adrienne (LeBlanc) Butkus. Growing up in Naugatuck, Daniel attended ST. Francis School and graduated from W.F. Kaynor Technical High School. He lettered in basketball and studied electrical trade and furthered his career as an apprentice at Scovill Manufacturing where he moved his way to facility manager for various companies. He later moved on to ventures of part owners of a restaurant and owned his own liquor store before retiring.

Early on he enjoyed coaching youth basketball and playing music. Later in life he enjoyed golf, biking, woodworking, cooking, and making people laugh. He loved his grand kids, great grand kids, and Papi his son's dog. His witty dad jokes, and charm will be missed by all who knew him.

Daniel leaves behind to cherish his memory, his two sons, Eric Butkus and his wife Stacy of Waterbury, Keith Butkus of North Branford, and two siblings, John Butkus of Watertown and Patricia Bedell of Naugatuck. He also leaves behind his five grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher, Allison, Tianna, and Oliver Butkus, as well as his three great grandchildren, Jase, Jade, and Layne.

Arrangements: All funeral services for Daniel will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Chase Parkway Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, have been entrusted with handling Daniel's funeral arrangements.
