Daniel S. Celio, aged 46, passed away on September 20, 2024. He is survived by his parents, Eugene and Mary Beth (née Olsavsky) Celio; siblings, Elisa (Jason) Clever, Matt (Liz Ifill) Celio, Bernadette (Erik) Quinones, Bridgette (Sarah Partee) Celio, and Nick (Janeth Barahona) Celio; nieces and nephew Nicola Clever, Gideon and Temperance Partee; and extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and family by choice.
Dan was born on May 30th in Youngstown, Ohio. He and his five siblings grew up on the West Side where Dan attended St. Brendan’s and Ursuline High School. Dan was dubbed the “Sound God” for his work with lighting and sound in high school theater productions. This was the start of Dan’s unorthodox and remarkable career path as a light, video, and sound engineer. At the age of 18, Dan started his first company, Sound Installs. He soon after taught himself home automation programming, eventually becoming one of the best and most sought after specialists in the industry.
Dan has called Boston, New York City, and always Youngstown home, but he could make himself comfortable anywhere in the world. He was an extensive traveler, some of his favorites being Iceland, Ireland, Slovakia, and recently Burning Man Festival. Dan loved his family and would talk about them to anyone he met. He loved to dance, jetski, kayak, cycle, golf, play guitar, watch space rockets launch, and anything to be out and active. When Dan was in your town, you could expect to get a call asking, “What are we doing today?”. Dan played the best music, sang the best karaoke, threw the best parties, showed the best videos, and made the best friends – still, he never missed an opportunity for a good long nap.
Dan was unabashedly himself and he accepted people for who they are. Whoever you were, you could be yourself around Dan. Openness to life and new experiences is something you can lose as you get older, but Dan never did.
Calling hours are Sunday Sept. 29 from 3pm to 5pm at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, 4303 Mahoning Ave, Austintown, OH 44515.
