Daniel (Booner) Dieck went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
He was born on June 29, 1942 in Waukegan, the son of George and Marge (nee Casey) Dieck.
He attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and Waukegan Township High School graduating in 1960. He was on the football, wrestling and baseball teams, enjoying the sport, his teammates and the coaches. He attended Cameron Junior College in Lawton, Oklahoma, which won the Junior College Rose Bowl Game in Pasadena, California in 1961. The team went on to be inducted into the Cameron University Sports Hall of Fame. After graduation from Drake University, he taught and coached in a high school in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dan had a few different occupations before purchasing the Starlite Lounge with Biddy Johnston and had great entertainment like Terry Daley, Peggy Ford, Jack Kent and many bands. After a few years, he started Booners and enjoyed over 30 years until his retirement, selling Booners to Aaron Chervin, but meeting friends on Tuesday and Friday nights and Saturday afternoon.

trip to Florida in November, visiting his friend Joe in Florida and Hawaii, visiting Louie in Arizona, trips to the Caymen Islands, the annual Dieck family golf weekend in July with a pizza party at his home the first night and dinners, golf and the golf tournament. He always enjoyed special events and holidays with the Dieck, Westcott and Johnson families. Dan was a lifetime Cubs and Bears fan. He spent his winters in Fort Myers, Florida and time in Door County, Wisconsin.
Note from Aaron about Dan "The legacy Dan leaves is nothing short of remarkable. The Booners Danny built became a gathering place for friends, family and strangers alike. His bar wasn't just a business, it was a reflection of his generous spirit - a place where people came together to share stories, find comfort and build lasting memories. His presence will continue to be felt in the warmth of every conversation and in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will forever live in the lives he touched.'
Danny is survived by his loving wife Barbara (nee Westcott) ; brothers and sister; Mick (KC), Jim (Gretta) Sue (Mike DeThorne), Ken (Ann); sister-in-law, Ginny Johnson; his nieces and nephews, Tracy (Tom), Michael (Sue), Cathy (Bill), Karyn, Lisa (Todd), Garrett (Elizabeth), Sarah (James), Emilie (Luis), Kris (Dan), Casey (Hank), Adam (Katie), Scott (Peggy), Kevin (Jennifer); 24 great nieces and great nephews; special friends, the Drew Family, Trina (Damon), The Reedy Family, Bob, Mike, Phil, Tom, Fred and Jerry.

Booner was always glad to see people in Waukegan have success in whatever endeavor they choose. Always with a smile and positive attitude. Benevolent to the highest degree when it came to Waukegan athletics. He will be missed by the entire city, because he knew most of them.

It's been so many years now that I don't have a deep reservoir of memories about Danny Dieck. But he was a good athlete in multiple sports. I knew him best for baseball. And he came from a family of outstanding boys (and maybe girls as well). So condolences to the Dieck family for the loss of this classy guy.

I am sending my sincere sympathy to Danny's family and the many, many Waukeganites who will dearly miss him. We were students at Drake University in the 60's. Danny was a great football player and such a kind man - fun, respectful, a good guy all around! Wishing you peace and warm memories of a very special man.
