Daniel “Dan” Doherty, 83 of Surprise, AZ, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12th , 2026 with his wife by his side.
Born in Kansas City, KS on September 18th, 1942, Dan graduated Bishop Miege Highschool, Class of 1962. After graduation, Dan enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served Honorably & Proudly until 1965. After his military service, he remained in the KC area where he started a distinguished career with Deluxe Check printers until his retirement 31 yrs later.
After retirement, a decision was made to relocate to the warm climate of Surprise, AZ where he & his loving wife Nancy began a new chapter in life. Dan quickly found himself needing something challenging, so he joined the AZ Juvenile Department of Corrections where he’d fill the role of Supervisor & Mentor for 11yrs. Dan’s natural ability to lead combined with his soft nature made him the perfect fit. Many friendships were developed that remain to this day.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Katherine (King) Doherty and sister Cathleen (Doherty) Bohon. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 yrs Nancy (Ice) Doherty, children Danny (Saundra) Doherty, Debbie (Jeff) King, sister Terri (Doherty) Clark, four grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Anyone who knew Dan knew immediately how much joy, happiness and endless love for his grandchildren: Derek Doherty, Deven Doherty, Regan King, and Hailey King brought to him. There wasn’t a day that didn’t go by where he didn’t express how proud he was of them.
Visitation services will be January 18th, 2026 from 2p-5p at Meneke Funeral & Cremation Center, 12420 North 103rd Avenue, Sun City, AZ 85351.
