Obituary of Daniel F. Doll

Daniel F. Doll, 80 years old, of Hebron passed away peacefully at home with his daughter by his side on Friday July 25, 2025. For over 60 years Dan was together with the love of his life his late wife Dorothy (Levasseur) Doll. Now they will be reunited.

Born in Manchester, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary (Conrad) Doll. Dan is survived by his brother Jeff, his identical twin David and his sister Linda. He is also survived by his daughter Amy Hartman, her husband Philip and three beautiful granddaughters Felicia, Kira and Vanessa.

After graduating MHS, Dan went on to study history at Trinity College in Hartford. Once he graduated, he became a social studies teacher in Glastonbury starting at Gideon Wells and moving on to Glastonbury High School. He loved teaching and tremendously enjoyed his students. When Dan had a difficult student, he would place a full-size cardboard likeness of the professional wrestler The Undertaker behind the student. He said that it worked particularly well. Even though Dan loved teaching one of his favorite things was his laid off for lack of work parties at the end of the school year with his fellow teachers.

There was more to Dan Doll than just teaching. He was an accomplished carpenter thanks to living in a 300 year-old house. Dan was always willing to build a shed or remake a kitchen. Dan was an avid scuba diver who dove all over the world. He studied coral bleaching and routinely gave lectures on the subject. He was also a skier. When his knees made downhill skiing difficult, he took up cross country skiing with his wife.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 15 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury. Dan was not a formal person and would appreciate dress be colorful and casual. Hawaiian shirts were his favorite. For online condolences, please visit www.mulryanfh.com.

I met Dan and Dot Doll in 1971 when my sister Lois and her husband Tom were married. Dan was the Best Man at the wedding. I liked them immediately and we were close friends for many years. Dan helped Lois and Tom with many things at their house, including building a beautiful screened in porch that we all enjoyed for years. He was a skilled craftsman as well as a great teacher. Dan, Dot, Lois, and Tom took many scuba diving trips together and had gorgeous photos from those trips. Dan is one of the best people I ever met and he will be deeply missed. I am so sorry for your loss, Amy and family. Sincerely, Debbie Russell

I was fortunate to have many influential and outstanding teachers, but he was my first teacher mentor. I had him for 9th grade Early Western Civ and Africa courses, and then I was roped into IR/Model UN club starting in 10th grade as well as his Anthropology class. Although I was already a history nerd, and his classes were always enjoyable, entertaining, and engaging, his mentorship influence to me came in two ways. The importance and complexities of the social sciences in shaping the real world, and being that "go-to-teacher" who supported me on a deeper and out of the classroom level as I grew from the stereotypical lost ninth grader to a student leader. I - and many others, without a doubt - would otherwise not be the people we are today.

As teachers go, he was one of the best; as humans go, he was even better. He inspired us all to be better versions of ourselves, in the classroom and in life. Mahalo, Mr. Doll, and a hui ho

Mr. Doll was my favorite teacher at Gideon Welles and at GHS. He was always kind and fun. He was a wonderful teacher who kept you interested in his lectures. The world has lost another wonderful person, but I am so happy that he is once again at his soulmate Dorothy's side in Heaven. God Bless you Mr. Doll, and God Bless your family. May you rest in heavenly peace. Deb Kaiser Morse

Mr. Doll was my favorite teacher. Ancient History, Period B, 1968, Gideon Welles JRHS. He really knew how to teach. And 1968 may have been his first year at age 23.

How well we remember meeting Dan and Dot through our friends Tom and Lois. We always looked forward to our yearly hayrides with lots of funny stories and antics. Dan and I bonded through teaching and he even had a few of the students I had in kindergarten who had moved to Glastonbury and were Dan´ s students in high school.
Dan was funny, thoughtful, adventurous and a very good man. We are sorry to hear of your Dad´s passing, Amy, but he is with your Mom now. He loved you so much and was so proud of you and your family.
