Daniel James Gahagan, Sr., "Dan"
Daniel, born May 6, 1946, passed away peacefully at Ascension SE Wisconsin Hospital on May 30, 2024, after a long battle with cancer.
Dan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diane. Also preceded in death by his mother, Alice Shepherd (née Dippel); father, Norbert Gahagan; stepfather, Robert Shepherd; and sisters, Darlene Gahagan and Jeanne Dolan.
Lovingly survived by his three children, Lisa Gahagan Umhoefer, Jason Gahagan (Tammy), and Daniel Gahagan Jr. (Melissa). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Mariah, Meghan, Breanna, Matthew, Paige, Skylahr, Broden, and Blake and one great-grandchild, Oliver.
Further survived by his siblings, Judith Seymour (Paul), Michael Gahagan, Monica Stroede (Ron), and David Gahagan.
Dan was a veteran of the Vietnam War after being drafted at the age of 19 years old. He was in the US Army, 4th Infantry Division, and earned a Purple Heart for his service.
Dan told many stories about working at Walgreens Restaurant in Milwaukee and Texas. He met his loving wife of 38 years at a Walgreens Restaurant, where he was a cook and Diane was a server. He also spent many years working as a supervisor for manufacturing companies Woodrow Brixius, Falk, and Custom Products Corporation.
He spent his early years working with the Sussex Jaycee's, bowling on a league with his friends, and was also his bowling league secretary. He enjoyed spending time with neighbors, throwing block parties and swimming parties.
In his later years, he enjoyed watching sports, especially Nascar, the Milwaukee Brewers and golf. He spent many hours watching his grandsons play baseball and cheering them on. Dan was very proud of his grandchildren and loved sharing stories about them with anyone who would listen.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, at CHURCH AND CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 380 Bluemound Dr. Waukesha from 2:00 PM until time of the Memorial Service at 4:00 PM.
