Daniel O. Gillson
February 10, 1946 – November 5, 2025
Daniel "Dan" O. Gillson, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025.
Dan attended Eastwood High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1966 where he was stationed aboard the USS Enterprise, the Navy’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. As part of the 1st Nuclear Task Force during the Vietnam War.
After his military service, Dan worked for many years as a heavy equipment mechanic, retiring from Stephenson Equipment.
Outside of work, Daniel had a deep love of history and participated in Civil War reenactments, proudly serving as a Sergeant in the 3rd New York Cavalry.
He was also known for his quick wit and sense of humor — he loved making people laugh and never missed a chance to share a good joke.
Dan was predeceased by his life partner, Carolyn Brokhoff; his mother, Janet Tarbell; his father, Owen Gillson; his daughter, Lori Gillson-Herron; and his beloved dogs, Dodger, Dixie, Buddy, Tagger, and Ricky.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Gillson; stepdaughters, Tammy (Mike) Brokhoff, Danelle (William) Littleboy, and Judy (Gregg) Granger; cousin, Joan Notaro; several grandchildren; his loyal dog, Sunshine; and his longtime friend, Jimmy Kennedy.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals on Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 2-4pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Clearpath for Veterans.
