Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors- Milford on May 21, 2025.
GILMER, Daniel Christopher- age 54 died May 18th, 2025. Daniel (Dan) was born December 4th, 1970 in Detroit, Michigan, the youngest son of Gerald and Kathleen (Bernard) Gilmer. Dan was a 1989 Fenton High School graduate. He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1993 and later an MBA from Wayne State University. He and his wife, Amy, built a life together not only as partners in marriage but also in business-co-owning and operating their family company, Gilmer Services.
He loved being on the lake with his speedboat and was always dressed for golf "in case the opportunity presented itself." He was an avid coffee drinker and you could often find him near the closest espresso machine. If it wasn't coffee in his hand, it was Diet Coke. Dan and his daughter, Cady, would often ask each other to bring home a "DC." Along with stealing Cady's Squishmallows to sleep on, he had what he called a "dad meatball tax" on every meatball sub run with his son Nick. Dan loved to travel and looked forward to his yearly father-son adventure with Nick to the NCAA Final Four or hiking Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Dan was full of life and laughter. He loved golfing, spending time up north, and hanging out with his beloved Boston Terriers-Rocky, Ollie, and FiFi. He had a knack for lighting up any room he walked into and never met a stranger. Dan was known as a jokester who stayed up-to-date on TikTok lingo thanks to his daughter and nieces, proudly working "slay" into conversation whenever possible. Dan was the kind of person you could always count on-a listening ear, a motivating pep talk, and just one phone call away.
Dan passed peacefully in his sleep from natural causes due to diabetes complications. While the last few months of his life were difficult, they don't outshine the years of wonderful memories and fun he created with loved ones. Dan is extremely loved and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
Dan is survived by Amy Beutler Gilmer; their two children, Nicholas (Nick) Gilmer and Cassandra (Cady) Gilmer; his parents, Gerald and Kathleen Gilmer; and his brother, Robert (Brandy) Gilmer. He was a proud uncle to Jacob (Madison) Gilmer, Elizabeth (Andrew) Gilmer Burns, and Alexandria Gilmer-known affectionately to the "Fab 5" cousin crew as "Funcle Dan."
Also surviving are his in-laws, Rodney and Jody Beutler; brother-in-law, Christian (Michelle) Maule; and niece and nephews, Brendan, Alexandra, and Ryan, and the Plumley family.
Dan was reunited in heaven with both his Gilmer and Bernard grandparents, Uncle Donny, and Aunt Barb.
Though he was taken from us far too soon, Dan's legacy is a testament to living life to the fullest, finding humor in every moment, and never being too busy for a phone call with someone you love.
"Yeah, I missed church last week. Could you put in a word for me? If you and God get to hanging out I look forward to catching up when my time comes around. I wonder what you're doing in Heaven right now."
-Thomas Rhett, "Heaven Right Now"
