Daniel Marvin Glick was born September 13,1942, Lancaster, PA, the son of Daniel and Lillian Glick. He passed away January 25, 2026, at Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, VA. He is survived by wife Lois Mellinger Glick, and sons, Matthew, Richmond, VA; and Jonathan (wife Margaret), Chicago, IL He is also survived by siblings, Isaac, Edmonton, Alberta; Vernon, Lancaster PA; Joy, Indianapolis, IN; Carri, Indianapolis and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held in the springtime.

Growing up on a Lancaster County tomato farm he learned at an early age the meaning of a good day's work. That inherent work ethic was woven into everything he undertook, including a BS in Biology (Eastern Mennonite University), an MS in Botany (Oberlin College) and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction (University of Kansas). After undergraduate school he and Lois taught school in a small fishing village off Notre Dame Bay in NL, Canada, as part of a Teachers Abroad Program. Their work and school engagements took them from Oberlin, Ohio; Saranac Lake, NY; Lawrence, KS; Sioux Falls, SD; until finally settling in Reston, VA, where he taught Biology at Northern Virginia Community College for 33 years. He was beloved by students and colleagues alike and those friendships shone brightly through the remainder of his days.

He was a lover of beauty in every aspect of the natural world and the arts, but particularly music. While his early life resonated with the glory of Russian Orthodox Church Music and the Masters, along his path Beethoven joined the likes of Roy Orbison, Willy Nelson, Eva Cassidy, Leonard Cohen, Ben Webster and all iterations between. And since our sons’ early childhood bedtimes always included the rocking chair and listening to music, he helped to transmit his passion for music into theirs.

His meticulous attention to detail was often the crux of family teasing but if you wanted something done right, Marv was your man. He knew how things worked and figured out how to fix them if they were broken. His unfailing generosity and kindness were legendary to family, students, neighbors, and friends. He delighted in family visits throughout the US and beyond. The highlight of each year was Men's Week vacations on the Outer Banks with his sons, brother Vern, nephews, and teacher friends thrown in for good measure His love of flying both as a young pilot and later passenger kept his focus riveted to the skies. He vicariously followed family visits all over the world, charting their passages. But he reveled in miniature detail, too. The bird feeder outside the kitchen window drew the heavens to his doorstep.

He walked this earth with quiet integrity, a true mensch.
