Obituary published on Legacy.com by Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home Inc - West Nyack on Jan. 26, 2024.
Daniel Joseph Grogan, a lifelong New Yorker, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2024. Dan was born to Margaret ("Mohalley") and Bill Grogan on December 7, 1935 in St. Jerome Parish in the Bronx. He grew up in the Mott Haven neighborhood, graduating from St. Rita's School. Dan and his younger sister, Theresa, were raised in the Roman Catholic faith by Margaret and Bill. Dan attended and graduated from Power Memorial High School in 1953 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps that same year. He served active duty until 1956, returning home and entering Fordham University. Dan graduated with a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Finance in 1961.
While attending Fordham U., Dan was introduced to his to-be wife, Virginia "Ginger" Beadle through his old high school friend Bobby Stewart, Ginger's cousin. Upon graduating in 1961, Dan married Ginger in her Inwood parish of Good Shepherd on June 16, 1961, and thereafter started a family. Also, that same year Dan started his career-long tenure at Texaco, Inc in Credit Card operations. Throughout his 35 year career at Texaco, Dan held several positions with increasing responsibility. In 1976, Dan was promoted to the position of Manager of Finance for Latin America and West Africa. Dan and his family moved to
Coral Gables, Florida, where they lived until January 1978, when Dan decided that his family was best served by moving back to New York and being close to family. Dan continued to hold key management positions and spent the last years of his Texaco career as a General manager with Texaco's captive insurance company.
Dan and Ginger had two sons, Kevin Francis (1962) and Dennis William (1964). Dan was predeceased by Ginger in 2017 after taking care of her for the last two years of her life as she suffered from dementia. He is survived by his son Kevin, his wife Patricia (Cronogue) and their five children – Kristin, Kevin, Caitlin, Deirdre, and Thomas (TJ); his youngest son Dennis, his wife Donna (Ingram) and their three children – Pat, Ryan and Meaghan. Dan's sister, Theresa, died in 2021, but Dan's beloved nieces – Regina Reczkowski and Kathleen Whitten – survive him as well as Regina's children, Brandon and Taryn. Dan is also survived by many beloved members of Ginger's direct family (Nearys, Flanagans, Stewarts, and Carlins), who were as much his family as the Grogans and Mohalleys were throughout his life.
Dan lived life to be with family and friends. He instilled in his sons and grandchildren and grand nieces/nephews this same passion. Dan tried to live his life making every day and moment special for his loved ones and friends, as well as people that he encountered daily. He especially loved taking his immediate family to Ireland in 2005 to rekindle the connection with the Grogans in Cashel, Tipperary where his father was raised asa young man. His last few years were spent in Brightview at Lake Tappan, where the staff cared for him with passion, and treated him like family.
