Daniel Hackett, “Uncle Danny”, 64, of Belmont, NC and formerly of Huntington, NY, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 9, 2026, surrounded by family and loved ones.
He was born May 14, 1961, in Huntington, NY to the late Francis X. Hackett and Mary Smith Hackett. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his oldest brother, Francis X. Hackett, Jr.
Daniel was a member of the United States Air Force from 1981-1986. A lover of the outdoors, Danny enjoyed Appalachian football games, camping, and a good fire pit. He could be found listening to his favorite folk music or attending a music festival. He loved traditional Irish music as well. He spent his years working as a tradesman. Danny could often be found doing projects for family and friends in his free time. Danny loved a great sunset, often sharing pictures to his family chat. Danny will be most remembered as a loving son, brother, and uncle.
Danny is survived by sister-in-law Nancy Hackett (Frankie’s wife), brother Michael Hackett (Sandy), sister Mary Ann Giannuzzi (Joseph), sister Patricia Lehecka (James, deceased), sister Virginia Suttle (Ralph), sister Jane Olver (William), sister Kathleen McEwan (Craig), brother Brian Hackett (Jeanne), Scott Gillies (Ellen) and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
The family will celebrate Danny’s life on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 11:30am in the Chapel at Benson Funeral & Cremation Service in Mt. Holly, NC at 11:30am. A second memorial will be held at a later date in his hometown of Huntington, NY.
The family would like to extend their appreciation for the wonderful care Danny was given by the staff at Caromont - Belmont ER and Caromont Regional - Gastonia CV-ICU. The compassion and support shown to Danny and the family in such a difficult time will be forever remembered.
