Daniel Hanley Sr., 69, of Scranton, died Thursday at Geisinger Community Medical Center after an illness. His wife of 46 years is the former Renie Gilmartin.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Francis and Mary Claire Donahue Hanley, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish. A graduate of Scranton Central High School, he also received an associate's degree from Johnson Technical Institute. Prior to retirement, Daniel was employed by UGI for 45 years, and was affectionately known as "The Doc" by his co-workers for his problem-solving abilities. He was proud member of IBEW Local 81, enjoyed coaching Scranton Little League and was an avid Notre Dame and New York Yankees fan.

A hard-working and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Daniel always made spending time with his family a top priority. He was a man of strong faith who handled his last illness with quiet grace. He also had a great affection for animals and was a loving "Papa" to all of his childrens' pets.

Also surviving are his children, Timmy and wife, Kirstin; Colleen and husband, Charlie Breish and their children Jack, Charlie Jr., and Grace: Megan and husband, Daniel Coles, and their son, D.W.; Danny Jr. and wife, Melanie, and their daughter, Emily; Terry and wife, Stephanie; and Maura Reeves and husband, Bryson, and their children, Aiden, Aubrianna, Weston, and Winona; siblings, Kathleen Butler and husband, Gordon; Michael Hanley and wife, Susan; Pat Hanely, Mary Hanley, Claire Walsh, Joan Marie Hanley and wife, Mary Ellen Mahan, and Joe Hanley and wife, Margie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
