Daniel Harris Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walker Funeral Home & Crematory - Sylvania on Aug. 9, 2025.

Daniel Melvin Harris passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2025, at the age of 58. The youngest of five, Dan was born in Toledo, Ohio to Melvin and Barbara (Lechlak) Harris on December 12, 1966. He always had a smile on his face and was ready with a joke. His passion for sports and airplanes started at young age. That passion led him to refer to himself as a walking book of useless knowledge.

After graduating from Roy C. Start high school, Dan enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1986-1995. He was a proud veteran and was always happy to share his treasured stories from his time and travels in the Navy as an airplane mechanic. He traveled the world and was on the maiden voyage of the United States Navy aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71).

As an avid sports fan Dan's favorite teams were the Ohio State Buckeyes, Miami Dolphins, and the New York Yankees. He was always in his Ohio State gear cheering on the Buckeyes. Sundays were filled with family fun cheering on the Miami Dolphins (and Lions). However, if one of his teams suffered a tough loss, he would refuse to watch any more TV to hear the negative sportscaster's story about his team.

Dan would want to make sure that his family and friends remember that the 1972 Miami Dolphins were the only NFL team to complete an entire season undefeated.

Dan's love for life will never be forgotten. He cherished his time with friends and family, especially his children who were his heart and soul. Dan loved sharing funny stories and that is when his never-ending useless knowledge would shine. He will be forever remembered and lovingly missed.

Left to carry on his legacy, his children, Benjamin Daniel Harris, Emily Grace Harris; siblings, Kim Kulwicki, Terri (Tracy) Holt, Michael (Theresa) Harris, Mary Beth DeLaTorre, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, and daughter Haley Elizabeth Harris.

A visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home (5155 W. Sylvania Ave.) on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 2 pm to 7 pm, ending with military honors.

A celebration of life will be held on September 27 with more details to come.
