He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Erie where he served as a Deacon for over 20 years and drove the church van picking up anyone who needed a ride to church. He adored and took care of his family and was considered the "Rock" of the Holter family. "The Rock of the family has gone to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus."

In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by his daughters, Kimlin "Kim" Holter and Pat Buckridge of Erie; four granddaughters, Mystic "Misty" Stevens, and her husband, Danny of Iola, Jessica Turner of Erie, Danice Heilig, and her companion, Travis Fulks of Lincoln, Missouri, and Soloma "Cati" Buckridge of Parsons; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Heidi Holter, two brothers, Curtis Holter and Leroy Holter, his sister, Beverly Sue Allen.
