On December 18, 2025, Douglas Arthur Holter won his victory in Jesus when God called His faithful servant home to hear the songs of praise in Heaven.
Douglas was born on January 7, 1943, to Donovan and Leone (Carlson) Holter in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm near Bowbells, North Dakota, by his mother and stepfather, Roelf Aufforth. He graduated from Bowbells High School in 1961 and served in the United States Army from 1962 until his honorable discharge in 1965.
In August 1967, Douglas was united in marriage to Joann Luke. They began their life together in Kenmare, North Dakota, where Doug worked at the lumber yard. They later moved to Berthold, North Dakota, where they raised their three children and where Doug pursued his lifelong passion for farming at Neshem Farms. Doug was an avid hunter, fisherman, and servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Doug and Joann moved with their family to Hayes, South Dakota, to manage Neshem Farms South until it was sold. Following Joann's passing in 1989, Douglas and Nathan returned to Berthold. Doug worked for Roger and Cheryl Neshem and family for 40 years, retiring in 2008.
Douglas was united in marriage to Glenys G. Valtr on January 24, 1997, gaining a stepson and stepdaughter. Douglas and Glenys retired to Pierre, South Dakota, in 2014.
Doug loved his Lord and his family with all his heart. His greatest joy was time spent with his great-grandchildren.
Douglas is survived by his wife of 28 years, Glenys; sons Jeremy (Julie) Holter and Nathan (Katherine) Holter of Berthold, North Dakota; stepson Roger (Dawn) Valtr of San Antonio, Texas; stepdaughter Loraine Waller of Brookings, South Dakota; son-in-law Rollie Borth; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Susan Watson of Sandy, Utah and Tammy Ryberg of Bowbells, North Dakota; and a host of extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann; daughter, Lorie Borth; his parents; and brothers Donovan "Sam" Holter, Herman Aufforth, and Rolf Aufforth.

He always had a kind word for me, I'd see him at least once a day when I worked at the store in Hayes. It was always Cindy Lu.
