Master Chief Daniel Kidd

Master Chief Daniel Kidd, 84, of Perkins, passed away Wednesday morning, January 28, 2026 at home surrounded by his family.

Daniel was born in Escanaba on September 10, 1941, son to Roach Stephen and Anita Jean (Jacobson) Kidd. He attended Holy Name High School and graduated in 1958.

After high school, Daniel enlisted into the Navy. He served his country for 32 years while earning numerous medals and ribbons. He earned the rank of Master Chief, the highest enlisted rank one can achieve in the Navy. He was honorably discharged in March of 1990. After his retirement from the Navy, he lived in California until he returned home to the UP in 2001.

In 1992, Daniel married the former Carrietha Flemming in California.

Daniel loved cooking, woodworking, bird watching, camping, his Cadillac, and playing cribbage and chess. Above all, he loved his cat, Piewacket, and spending time with his children.

He was a member of the American Legion in Gwinn and was also very active with the legion when he lived in California.

Among survivors include his children, John (Samantha) Kidd, Daniel (Ann Marie) Kidd II, Nikki (John) Augsburger, Richard Kidd, and Gina (Dave) Berg; grandchildren, Kayla Kidd, Tori Augsburger, and Keith Kidd; two great-grandchildren; along with siblings, Sarah Jo Kidd, Mary Kay (Dave) Klein, Mark (Sue) Kidd, Peter Kidd, and Patrick (Cathy) Kidd.

Along with his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his wife, Carrietha; and nephew, Kyle Kidd.

A private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
