KING, DANIEL PATRICK, age 77 of Waterford, MI, passed away peacefully at his home on July 13, 2024. Born on December 4, 1946, in Marquette, Michigan to parents Francis and Lucille King.
Dan was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Dan has family in both the upper and lower peninsula but was raised in Pontiac. He attended Pontiac Northern High School, where he graduated in the class of 1965. After high school, he served his country in the Vietnam War, earning an honorable discharge from the United States Army on January 6, 1968. On July 17, 1970, Dan married his late wife, Carol Lee King. They shared many wonderful years together before her passing in 1996.
While Dan was known for negotiating the best bargain at garage sales and thrift shops, he had an equally generous heart and contributed to many charities over the years, including World Vision, Grace Centers of Hope, St. Jude and Boys Town of America. He never met a dessert he didn't like, he enjoyed taking day trips throughout Michigan visiting as many Michigan lighthouses as he could, and bonfires in his kids' backyards. He loved his pets and never turned away a stray in need of a home. During his 45 years of living in Lake Oakland Heights (LOHA) he enjoyed participating in neighborhood activities, walks to the beach and potlucks under the pavilion.
Dan will be remembered for his kindness, his adventurous spirit, his ability to make others laugh, his good-natured joking, and frequenting local car shows in his 1955 teal Ford Thunderbird. His laugh, his love and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Dan is survived by his daughters, Colleen (Jeremy) Scherer and Danielle (Chris) King-Gwinn, and his cherished granddaughter, Deryn Lee Brennan (Nick Haskell). He also leaves behind his sister, Lucinda Martin (King) of Spring, Texas, dear friends Carol Leonard, Ron LaPointe and Art Turland, as well as many more friends and family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Lucille King, his wife, Carol Lee King, and his brothers, Sonny King of Eugene, Oregon and John King of Waterford, Michigan.
A funeral service will take place at Monday, July 22, 2024 at 11 AM at COATS FUNERAL HOME-WATERFORD, 3141 Sashabaw Rd, Waterford Twp, MI 48329. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-8 PM. Private interment at Christian Memorial Estates, 521 E Hamlin Rd, Rochester Hills, MI 48307.
Those desiring to do so may make a memorial contribution to World Vision, Grace Centers of Hope, St. Jude and Boys Town of America in honor of Daniel King.
