Daniel G. Lawyer

Daniel G. Lawyer, 83, of South New Berlin, New York, passed away peacefully at home on December 7, 2024, at the age of 83. He was surrounded by family, holding the hand of his beloved wife, Eileen, at the time of his passing.

Daniel was born on August 10, 1941, in Rush, Pennsylvania. He married the love of his life, Eileen Reed, on March 13, 1976, and together they built a life full of love, adventure, and family.

Daniel is survived by his wife Eileen; son, Timothy Taylor; daughter, Dawn Lawyer (Scott Osborne); Jennifer Reed; and Sabrina Corn (Ben Harrold); and grandchildren Amanda Salisbury (Chelsey, Levi), Austin Taylor, Alexander Taylor, Olivia Joslyn, Reed Osborne, Cash Osborne, and Quinn Osborne. He was predeceased by his in-laws, Herbert and Marion Reed, and his niece Michele Reed.

Dan proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. Following his military service, he worked for the New York State Department of Corrections, retiring in 1998 as a Lieutenant.

Known for his hands-on approach to life, Dan was an early advocate of the DIY spirit. He loved building and fixing things and was always ready to lend a hand or offer advice on any project. This love for craftsmanship was passed down to his children and grandchildren, who often sought his guidance and expertise.

A community-minded individual, Dan served on the South New Berlin Central School Board of Education and was especially proud of his role in the merger between New Berlin and South New Berlin schools to form the Unadilla Valley School District.

Dan enjoyed traveling, and some of his most cherished memories were created on trips to San Juan, Puerto Rico, with his best friends, John and Betsy Greeley. 

His grandchildren lovingly referred to him as “Poppa extraordinaire,” and he was a constant presence at their events, deeply cherished by them and often known as “Pop” to many of their friends.

Graveside services and a celebration of Dan’s life will be held in the Spring of 2025. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, and his legacy of love, wisdom, and service will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
