Daniel Matecki Obituary

Published by Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Burritt Hill on May 15, 2016.
Daniel Adam Matecki, 31 of New Britain, loving son of Feliks and Sophie Matecki, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday May 15th, 2016. Daniel was a New Britain resident all of his life. He graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1998 and New Britain High School in 2002. Growing up he also graduated from Saturday morning Polish school, and was an active member of the Polish Scouting Organization, reaching the Eagle Scout ranking. Truly an ambitious person, he started working at the age of 15 for American Savings Bank. He continued his determination and graduated from CCSU in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance. He was recognized with high scholastic attainment and was elected a member of the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society. He was a devoted family member, full of life and laughter, and never hesitated to help or be there for anyone. He genuinely enjoyed spending time and having fun with his brother Adam, they were more than just brothers they had a special bond and were the true meaning of best friends. They enjoyed playing and watching sports, skiing, golf, baseball, football, especially the New York Giants. Going on golf trips together was their big passion and Daniel was Adam's biggest supporter while he was competing in golf tournaments. He had many hobbies, enjoyed going to sports memorabilia shows and concerts, he loved to dance, go on adventures, and travel with his family. Growing up he loved to go on cruises, camping, and countless vacations to St. Maarten with family and friends. Daniel loved every minute he had with his entire family. He had the ultimate extraordinary bond with his father since the day he was born. That was his "Tatunia." Daniel regarded his father as his confidant, his mentor, his counselor, his everything. He was close with all of his cousins, especially with Edward and Julia growing up on the same street, and was known as "Wuju Daniel" to their Children. He touched so many lives and will be missed by all. He leaves behind his parents, Feliks and Sophie (Zymula) Matecki, his brother Adam Matecki, his grandmother, Ewa (Brocki) Matecki, his aunt and uncle, Barbara (Matecki) and Waldemar Kowalewski, his aunt and uncle Mary (Zymula) and Edmund Chylinski, his aunt and uncle Bronislawa and Antoni Zymula. In addition, he is survived by his dearest cousins, Edward Kowalewski and his wife Urszula and their two sons Alexander and David, Julia Perlmutter and her husband Christopher and their two children, Olivia and Robert, Dorothy Zyla and her husband Mariusz and their 3 children Gabby, Jaxson and Leah, as well as Mark, Richard, and Derek Chylinski. He is also survived by his aunt Janina Brocki and her children, Jerry Brocki, Bogdan Brocki and Suzanne Davis and their families. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Jarsolaw Matecki, Teresa and Kazimierz Zymula and a great uncle Adam Richard Brocki with whom he was very close to. His funeral service will begin on Thursday, May 19th, at 8:30 a.m. at Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, New Britain. He will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Burritt Hill. Man, I went to high school with Danny and used to see him around every few months. I just saw him a few weeks ago. I am just so sorry for your loss. He was so smart and ambitious and cheery and it is just a shame that he is gone- and Unnecessary. There is nothing I can say to alleviate any of the pain Danny's loved ones are going through, but please know Danny touched many lives and will continue to do so now on the other side. My condolences.

"Dear Feliks, I have known your family from a distance for almost 15 years now. As a youth I remember frequenting the Y.M.C.A in New Britain and seeing you there every afternoon. I have used your hard work attitude on many of my lifts and runs since meeting you. When I had met Daniel I had no idea he was your son until the day that we had planned a trip to the beach and stopped by your home. Daniel was allways a person to display respect and concern for my well being. This loss is tragic and I want you to know that my memories of Dan are full of smiles and talks. Dan had been a friend that had taken the time to stop and give me advice when he knew that it would be useful. My prayers for your family are that you may have comfort and peace in the midst of this tragedy.

Dear Matecki Family -

I am truly sorry for your loss. Dan was such a wonderful person and I have so many great memories from Sacred Heart School and New Britain High School. He was always so kind, friendly, generous, and outgoing. As a little kid in 4th grade, he included me and made me feel welcome from the start when I first came to SHS from Poland and didn't know a word of English. He had such a big heart - and such a great sense of humor - he would get so silly and make everyone around him laugh. He will be greatly missed. Sending thoughts and prayers to you all during this difficult time. Heaven gained an angel.

Dan - may you rest in peace.

Dan, man, it breaks my heart to even be staring at this page. I still can't wrap my head around it. When my mom called me with the news Sunday night it was like a punch to the stomach. We knew each other our whole lives and shared many great memories. I try to think about those times knowing you're now gone. After moving away a couple years ago we didn't stay in touch as much and I feel deep regrets about that; We were both busy with our lives. We never really know how much time we have and life is precious. I'll NEVER forget how after I decided to goto a different high school you were the only one from Sacred Heart to call and see how I was doing. Being in a new school with no friends you'll never really understand how much that meant to me. Your kindness is a reminder to the rest of us that we can do a better job. I'm really going to miss you.

To Sophie - I just found out this morning about Daniel. I am so very sorry for the loss of your son. You and your family are in my heart and my thoughts. You and I have known each other for about 30 years and not only are you a wonderful person to work with, but your are a good friend. I have always enjoyed our talks together. When I lost a loved one, your kindness and compassion always made me feel much better. Please be strong for Daniel as well as the rest of your family. God will see all of you through this with His love and care. Take care and God bless.

Danny, I'm going to miss you. I was always scared to talk to you in class because I was shy. And even now , but worse because I would never have that chance to ever say anything. You were always so nice to me and accepted me just the weird geeky person I portray to be. I am not good with these things and it breaks my heart. God bless you. I'll put you in a special spot in my heart.

Dan,
I've known you my whole life since we were little kids. Our good times growing up, going on vacation, hanging out, and playing golf together. Over the years, we got to know each other extremely well. You were a friend like no other, and I will dearly miss you. Just last friday I saw you for the first time in a while, we ate lunch at capital lunch, but never in a million years did I think this would be the last time I would see you. You looked great, sooo full of life, excited for your upcoming 2nd interview with Aetna where you had been trying to get into for years. I told you I was proud of you, and you had a glow to you I had not seen in years, finally I saw the "Old Dan" again. The last couple of years have been tough for both of us with ups and downs, and finally it seemed we were through the worst of it. You were the truest friend I have ever had, and I will always have the memories we have accumulated over the years. You were One of a kind, and the BEST friend. I MISS YOU SOOOOO MUCH, and I LOVE YOU MAN!! Till the day we meet again......
