Daniel James McClean, 67, of Dyersville passed away at Finley Hospital in Dubuque on August 19, 2024.
Visitation will be held at Kramer Funeral Home on Sunday, August 25, 2024 from 2-7 PM. Visitation will continue at Kramer Funeral Home from 9 – 10 AM prior to the funeral mass.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Basilica on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville.
Dan was born in Des Moines to Jim and Nada McClean on October 26, 1956. He grew up in Ames, Iowa with his sister Gale. After graduating from Ames High School in 1975, he went on to earn a dual bachelor's degree in Political Economic Systems and Mass Communications from Buena Vista College then attended Creighton University, earning his Juris Doctorate. Upon passing the Iowa Bar, Dan moved to Dyersville, joining the law firm of Jenk, Jenk & Goen. He enjoyed a 40-year legal career, including 16 years as a Dubuque County Magistrate.
In 1984, Dan married Jane Ertl of Dyersville and they raised two sons, Matthew James, and Michael Joseph. He was a proud father and member of the Dyersville community and always left an impression with his wit, sarcasm and boundless imagination. Dan's passion was baseball and he was an instrumental part of little league and projects with the Field of Dreams. For many years, Dan was the voice of the Beckman Blazers and Dyersville Whitehawks. His other interests included reading, current events, politics, and collecting memorabilia.
Dan is survived by sons, Matt (Ellie) McClean of Davenport and Michael (Jordaan Sanford) McClean of Los Angeles, CA; Sister, Gale McClean (Art Ehlers) of Bettendorf; Former wife, Jane Ertl (Ken Root) of Dyersville; and his aunt Lou Power of California.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Nada McClean.
