It is with great sadness to share that Dorothy (Scherbring) Burkle, a dearly loved wife and mother, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. She was 89 years old.
Born on June 14, 1936, to Abbie and Albert Scherbring (Petersburg, Iowa) Dorothy grew up on the family farm instilling in her a love for farming, working hard, perseverance and tenderheartedness. Dorothy was supremely dedicated to her family. She filled their lives with much love, care, laughter, an example of hard work, and mostly by being a faithful Christian. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 65 years, Delbert, and her five children Pat (Lisa) Burkle, Kate (Ron) Lueken, Margie Burkle, Anne (Brandon) Thomas, and Terry (Jennifer) Burkle, as well as her siblings Tom (Dianne) Scherbring and Alice (Harold) Schilling and in-laws Donald Burkle, Leander (Lavonne) Burkle, and Delores Burkle. Dorothy had 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Her children and family were her pride and joy. The only thing held in higher regard was her love for Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. She prayed daily; her favorite spot was being in church. Even in her last days, her faithfulness to Jesus did not waiver. We are reminded as shared in Galatians 5:22-23 that our life work is to glorify God; to produce fruits of the spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Romans 8:28 shares that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.
