Daniel McCue Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home on Dec. 27, 2023.
Daniel J. McCue, 81, of Shrewsbury, MA died on Friday, December 22, 2023, with his family by his side after a lengthy illness. Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, Dan was the son of Charles J. McCue and Mary Dorothy Smith. He was a graduate of St. Louis University High School and received a Magna Cum Laude B.S. Degree from Northeastern University, Boston, MA.
Most of Dan's career was spent in the specialty chemical and semiconductor manufacturing industry, along the way pursuing various entrepreneurial endeavors. He was proud to have worked on the Gemini Spacecraft team as a chemical technician at McDonnell Aircraft while still in St. Louis very early in his work history.
Dan was a veteran of the U. S. Army Reserves. Volunteering his time for various organizations, reading, and spending time on the golf course kept him happily occupied in his free time. He and his wife of 56 years, Lois, spent the winters of the last 20 years in South Carolina on Kiawah Island.
Dan is survived by his devoted wife, Lois (Ehlers), his daughter Kristen Parker (Wayne) of Charleston, SC, son Mark McCue (Heather), grandsons Jake and Chase McCue of Grafton, MA, a brother John McCue of Bangor, WI, a sister-in-law, Nancy McCue of Spring, TX, wife of his brother Thomas who predeceased him, a sister-in-law Ruth E. Ehlers of Fishkill, NY, and nieces and nephews as well.
His family will remember him as a man of integrity and someone who was very brave, kind, compassionate, always willing to counsel yet never judgmental. Dan believed in taking risks and giving something a try, saying, "There are very few decisions in life that can't be reversed, so what's the worst that can happen? You try something else." Great advice to live by and a great legacy to leave behind to all his family and friends.
Our gratitude to Notre Dame Hospice and the wonderful caregivers for their commitment and exceptional care given to Dan the last months of his life.
In accordance with Dan's wishes, funeral services will be private. A donation in his memory if desired can be made to the Nativity School of Worcester or the Alzheimer's Association.
