Daniel L. Mercer

Daniel L Mercer, 76, of Granite City, IL, passed away on March 20th, 2024, surrounded by loving family at Gateway Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 2, 1947 to Harold Mercer and Harriett (Robinson) Mercer.
Dan led a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments, even though he complained about most of it. He will be remembered fondly by those who knew him as Jellybean, given to him by a former coworker who said he was "just as sweet as a jellybean", or Animal, due to his tenaciousness and competitive spirit.
He was a devoted husband to his late wife Mary (Seay) Mercer and a loving father to three children: daughter Dianna (Phillip) Mifflin of Granite City, IL, and sons Chris (Jen) Mercer of Glen Carbon, IL, and Danny (Laurie) Mercer of Maryville, IL. Dan was a Goofy Grandpa to 8 grandchildren: Brandon, Jordan, Courtney, Alex, Collin, Harriet, Olivia, and Madelyn. He is also survived by a brother, Edward (Diane) Mercer of AZ, and a sister, Phyllis (Michael) of SC.
Dan was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He retired from US Steel after 24 years of service, and was a long-time bowler who passed his love of the game onto his youngest son.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25th, 2024 at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory in Granite City, IL. The burial will be at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, IL. Those wishing to go in procession to the cemetery can meet at Wojstrom Funeral Home at 11:00 am sharp on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 and will leave promptly at 11:15 a.m.
