Daniel "Dan" "Papa" Paul Meshigaud, 63, of Wilson, passed away unexpectedly in the morning hours of Sunday, August 4, 2024 at OSF St Francis Hospital.
He was born on March 15, 1961 in Escanaba, son of Hubert Ira and Louella Rose Meshigaud. He attended Bark River Harris High School and graduated in 1980.
He married Lorrie Lynn Worden on June 19, 1982 in a small white church in Deerton, MI.
Dan lived in several places including Milwaukee, Grand Rapids, Marquette and Escanaba. He eventually returned to Hannahville in 1991.
Dan was a proud Potawatomi and was the 14th and final child of his family. He worked as a VOCA Counselor, he helped start one of the first Pow Wows, wrote grants and started the summer youth program, all for the Hannahville community.
As a die-hard Packer fan, he would watch every game on tv and would celebrate by jumping on his couch whenever the Packers scored. Dan also enjoyed doing bead work, reading, and took great care to learn the Potawatomi language.
The greatest joy in his life was being the full-time babysitter to his grandchildren.
Among his survivors include his wife, Lorrie; children, Charlie Meshigaud of Green Bay, Nikki (Brad) Sagataw of Hannahville and Kira (Meshigaud) Grundy of Hannahville; grandchildren, Daniel, Shyanne and Christian Meshigaud, Aiden and Kayla Sagataw, and Ember, Kaleb, and Baylee Grundy; siblings, John (Sue) Meshigaud, Annie Williams-Meshigaud, Earl (Aiesha) Meshigaud, Robert Meshigaud, Donald Meshigaud and Ken (Jeanne) Meshigaud; along with many loved nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Dan is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Laelah Mae Meshigaud-Sagataw; and siblings, Mae Schoen, Mary Lou McCullough, Nita Meshigaud, Ernest Meshigaud, Ronald Meshigaud, Hubert Meshigaud and David Meshigaud.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Hannahville Community Center. The funeral service will follow on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will take place in the Hannahville Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. (All times are Eastern) The family requests that friends and family wear Packer apparel to the services.
