Bishop Daniel Raymond Mitchell was born December 12, 1937, in Emilee, Texas to the late Mr. Steve and Pearl Percy Mitchell. Bishop Mitchell grew up in Foster Hill and resided in Doucette, Texas until passing. He attended school and graduated from Scott High School in Tyler County, Texas. Bishop Mitchell was baptized at an early age and was a devout and faithful Christian. He served as the Bishop of Christ Holy Temple Church for over sixty years.
He departed this life on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at approximately 9:24 p.m. at Woodville Health and Rehab. Bishop Mitchell met and entered Holy Matrimony with Etter Mae Segrest Mitchell on September 12, 1943, to the union of nine children. Bishop Mitchell was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, devout leader, and loyal brother and friend. He was a stout believer in God, family, and good citizenship. He was greatly loved and respected by all nine of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and those who knew him.
Bishop Mitchell is preceded in death by his parents; wife Sister Etter Mae Mitchell; two sons, Leonard Mitchell and Mark Anthony Mitchell; brothers, Melvin Mitchell, Chester Mitchell, MacArthur Mitchell, Lester Mitchell, and John Mitchell; sisters, Sandra Barnes, Naomi Marshall, Anna Mae Herring, Erma Hadnot, and Lois Credit,
Bishop Mitchell leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Daniel Mitchell Jr. of Beaumont, TX, Tony Mitchell of Houston, TX, Samuel Mitchell of Houston, TX, and Jacob Mitchell of Duncan, OK; daughters all of Woodville, TX, Jacqueline Barlow, Amanda Scott, and Cassandra Mitchell and their spouses; brother, Steve Willie (Will) Mitchell of Warren, Tx; and sisters, Freda Thomas of Lufkin, TX, and Robbie McNeal of Woodville, TX.
He also leaves the legacy of a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
