ARUNDEL- Daniel "Dan" E. Nason, 67, returned to God on July 10, 2025, lovingly surrounded by family.
Born in Portland, Dan grew up on a farm in Gray, ME with his three brothers. He shared stories of picking blueberries in the field by his home, playing basketball on various school teams, and completing farm chores. He and his brothers got into constant mischief, stories he thoroughly enjoyed sharing with his children in his later years.
In 1992, Dan met his wife of 32 years, Gail, while shopping at a local Hannaford. Dan never missed an opportunity to strike up a conversation with a stranger, so he took a chance that resulted their marriage in June of 1993. Through their marriage, Dan coached or refereed numerous sports teams for his kids, hosted cook outs, attended every after-school activity, took care of animals that his kids promised they would take responsibility for, and made more American chop suey than any person ever should. Most importantly, Dan loved with his whole self and lived a life full of light, laughter, and family.
In March of 2014, Dan experienced a medical event that resulted in 11 years of complications and fighting. His family was his biggest motivation and his reward. Through every close call, Dan would be seen smiling and cracking jokes. His personality never dimmed, and his spirit made everyone fall in love with him. During this time, Dan found God again and held peace in knowing that his faith was strong and his life story was up to Him.
Dan was one of a kind. At any given moment, he could be found watching YouTube videos of farming equipment, FaceTiming one of his children just to "hang out" and watch what they were doing, playing with his grandchildren, or watching game shows with his wife. His laugh was infectious, his humor never ebbed and always remained slightly inappropriate, and he lived for others. He never felt bad for himself or wallowed in the hand he was dealt, but instead, took everything in stride and was an example of what positivity can do. As he would often say, he did everything with "a pep in his step and a smile on his face".
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Gail (Laverriere) Nason; his children, Travis Brocher and his wife, Elizabeth Brocher, and Vanessa (Nason) Munson and her husband, Cody Munson; and his beloved grandchildren, Maleigh, Emerson, Addison, Maddox Daniel, and McKenna. He will be deeply missed by his brothers, a large extended family, friends, and numerous health professionals that he developed relationships with over the years.
To have known him is to have known the brightest star. Whomever had the honor of crossing paths with Dan was left feeling valued, heard, and, simply, happy. He will be missed every day.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford, Maine 04005. A Funeral Outside of Mass will follow at 1:00 pm.
