James A. Knox (Jim) (7/6/1942 - 10/7/2025), 83, of Falmouth, ME, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2025, at the Inn at Village Square in Gorham, ME. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was predeceased by his mother Katherine Knox (d. 1963), father Frank Knox (d. 2005), stepmother Alice Knox (d. 1999), sister Patricia Grzybowski (d. 2010), and beloved wife of 39 years, Nancy Knox (d. 2020).
He is survived by his brother Frank Knox Jr. and wife Betty of Newburyport, MA; along with his daughter Linda Diffenbacher and husband Jim of Dracut, MA; daughter Debra Semeraro and husband Tom of Groton, MA; son Kevin McElearney and wife Anne of Falmouth, ME; and his nephew Michael Grzybowski and wife Amy of Saunderstown, RI; Jim also had 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Jim was born on July 6, 1942, in Littleton, MA, to Frank and Katherine Knox. He grew up there alongside his younger sister, Patricia, and brother, Frank Jr., rooted in Littleton. Inspired by his father, Frank Sr., a parts manager for Knox Bros. Motor Co. in Somerville, MA, Jim forged a steadfast career at Chrysler Parts in Mansfield, MA, retiring after decades of dedicated service. His love for Chrysler vehicles was legendary; he owned many over the years. He also loved to tell stories of his time at "The Bucket" with friends and had a lifelong passion for New England sports, especially hockey, as a devoted Boston Bruins fan who held season tickets for many years.
Jim met his best friend and soulmate, Nancy Tozier. The two fell in love and married in 1981. He often quipped, "I became a husband, father, and grandfather all on the same day." When the children were grown, Jim and Nancy began the next chapter of their lives in Barefoot Bay, Florida during the winter returning home to Nancy's family camp "Tall Timbers" in Maine each spring.
Jim, Nancy, and five generations cherished their time on Highland Lake. The Fourth of July was the highlight of every summer, when family and friends gathered for the annual cookout and group photo on the camp stairs. Large family dinners were always a favorite, featuring sunsets over the lake as viewed from the front porch, sips of wine, the calls of loons, and Jim's famous storytelling. After the grandchildren arrived, Jim and Nancy embraced their roles as "Bumpie" and "Mimi." Jim enjoyed watching the generations from his favorite chair by the fireplace at night.
Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. We will remember, with a smile, Jim's zest for life, storytelling, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to family. He will be forever missed by his loving family and devoted friends.
No formal funeral services will be held.
