John R Grubb, 61, of Kennebunk, died unexpectedly at his home on October 3rd, after a long period of health challenges.
John was born September 1, 1964 at Maine Medical Center under unfortunate circumstances, and was placed with the family of Alton and Marguerite Goodson as a "hospice" placement. He was not expected to survive, but John did live, to over 60, and as his sister-in-law Bonnie says, it just shows what love can do.
John graduated from Kennebunk High School in 1983. He worked at the York County Coast Star in Kennebunk, as well as at the Arundel Big Apple convenience store and gas station. John was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed collecting sports cards and Matchbox & Hot Wheels cars. John was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Myrtle Lodge.
John enjoyed meeting friends at Cumberland Farms and XTra Mart in Kennebunk and passing the time of day. John met some of his biological family when he came of age. He was close to his two sisters, Shirley and Cindy.
John was predeceased by his beloved foster parents Alton and Margeurite (Potvin) Goodson, his brother Donald Blowers, and one foster brother Daniel Goodson. He is survived by his foster brother James Goodson and his wife Bonnie of Kennebunk; his sisters Shirley Gray and Cindy Reed, and many nieces, nephews, & cousins; and his many friends in the community.
Many thanks to the friends who helped John over the years. Their caring and compassion for John does not go unnoticed.
Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Biddeford. John's memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 16th from 2pm to 5pm at Hope Memorial Chapel. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John's name may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.
