Daniel E. O’Sullivan, 77, of Clinton, MA passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023 after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his eternally devoted wife Carol (Plouffe) O’Sullivan, and his family.

Born November 12, 1945 in Worcester, he was the son of the late Daniel E. and Marion (Tivnan) O’Sullivan. He is survived by his wife and hero Carol, his son Daniel and wife Patti (Lucey), and his daughter Megan O’Leary and her husband John. He is also survived by grandchildren, Marion and Colm O’Sullivan and Tess and Gracie O’Leary.

Danny proudly grew up in a three-decker on Grafton Hill, or “Nobility Hill” as he called it. He attended St. John’s Elementary on Temple Street, and went on to St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, graduating in 1963. Although he spent more time being disciplined in the Headmaster’s office than he did being taught in the classroom, he carried the pride of being a St. John’s Pioneer with him for life.

 

After high school, Danny served in the National Guard. Following in the footsteps of his father, he became a “telephone guy” which continued for thirty years. He often regaled his family and friends with stories of his co-workers and the antics of the Greendale garage. After retirement, he worked driving school children with special needs, his Elmo doll riding shotgun.

 

Dan and Carol started their life together in the Burncoat section of Worcester. The Oneida Ave. crew offered a daily life full of laughs and camaraderie. They then moved to Ridgefield Circle Community in Clinton. He and Carol also found a second home in Harwich Port during the summer months. Dan was a parishioner of St. John’s Church for most of his life.

 

Although Dan had many joys in his life, there were none greater than his children and grandchildren. Working 50+ hours per week, he and Carol took few vacations and never drove a new car. Instead, they saved to provide a top education for their children. Ensuring that his children and grandchildren had the best possible education was his biggest life goal, in which he succeeded in abundance.

 

As a grandfather, he rarely missed a middle school basketball game, dance recital, or repeat performance of a play. Although he loved his grandchildren mightily, he never conceded a pitch or cribbage tournament. “Papa” could always be counted on to show up and show love.

 

The family extends their gratitude to Dan’s medical team, Dr. Ramya Korapati, Dr. Billy Foley, and Nurse Courtney Desy, for their exceptional care of Dan.

Family and friends are welcomed to a celebration of Dan's life with calling hours Tuesday, November 7, 2023, from 5-8pm at the Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration  Home, 61 Myrtle St in Worcester. A funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, November 8 at 11am in St. John’s Church, 44 Temple St. in Worcester. Burial will be private for the family at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to St. John's Church Food for the Poor Program.
