Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmichael Funeral Homes - Smyrna on Oct. 27, 2025.
Daniel Allen Padgett, Sr., 81, of Powder Springs, Georgia, went home to the Lord on Friday, October 24, 2025. Daniel, or Danny as he was known to many, leaves behind so many friends and family who are eternally changed by his presence here on earth.
Born in Newberry, SC on August 26, 1944, to John (Pete) and Dorothy Padgett, Dan spent most of his formative years in Georgia when the family relocated to Forest Park. He graduated from Forest Park High School where he was a star of the football team and met his high school sweetheart, Beverly, who was, of course, captain of the cheerleading squad. The two would be inseparable and when Dan graduated and headed off to college at Newberry College, it was evident that they could not remain apart. They married in August 1963 and settled into life in Newberry while he worked his way through college and obtained his B.S. in Chemistry. During this time, their first child, Allen, was born.
After graduation, the family of three moved to Cheraw, SC for Dan's first job at J.P. Stevens Textile. It is there that Patrick was born and shortly after, they relocated to the Atlanta area where he would begin a 37-year career at Zep Manufacturing. The job with Zep moved the family to Santa Clara, CA for a short stint, but they ultimately settled in Smyrna where Kristi would eventually complete the family of five.
Dan was a lover of nature, animals and definitely of people. He had a servant's heart and volunteered as a Sunday School teacher at Smyrna First Baptist Church for several years, refereed countless youth soccer games, was member of SATA, mentored many youth and adults, and the list goes on. He was a devoted member of the Smyrna Optimist Club, serving as an officer, and continued this commitment even after he and Beverly relocated to Powder Springs, GA in 1995. His passion for civic duty and love of community and our country was unwavering.
Following a lifelong dream, Dan bought his first horse at the age of 50 (Toby), and began boarding him at GB's stables in Smyrna, which led to many new and lifelong friendships. An eventual move to Powder Springs was prompted by a desire to have a home where he could have his beloved horses close by. This home provided a place for countless family gatherings and making memories, including with neighbors who have become like family.
After retiring from Zep in 2005, Dan continued his professional passion as an industry consultant and also acquired his real estate license. He worked alongside Beverly as an agent first with Century 21, then with Better Homes and Gardens for several years, and just recently joined the Local Realty team in Marietta. This career change allowed him to help people, which was at the core of everything he did.
Dan will be remembered for his authenticity, fierce loyalty, unwavering faith and integrity, and genuine investment in the success of others. He mentored many to be their best selves and that legacy will live on in all who he encountered. He was the real deal.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Padgett and Dorothy L. Padgett of Forest Park, GA, and his sister, Cathy Bradford of McDonough, GA.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Beverly C. Padgett of Powder Springs, GA; his sons Daniel A. Padgett, Jr. (Dianne) of Crescent City, FL and Patrick M. Padgett (April) of Marietta, GA; his daughter Kristi Olterman (Rob) of Woodstock, GA; and his beloved grandchildren Sophia, Nathan and Cameron. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The
