Daniel "Dean" Parker was born on November 28, 1936, and reunited with his parents, Shirley and Gladys Lucille Parker, in Heaven on October 16, 2025. Dean was a husband, father, grandfather, brother and a friend. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.
Dean was born in Greenville, South Carolina and was one of five siblings, the importance of family (and southern food) never left him. He would take frequent trips back home to visit, always leaving a trail of laughter and a promise to come back soon.
Dean dedicated his professional life to the NCR, beginning his career repairing cash registers and impressively earning the title of Regional Vice President – talk about a success story! We can draw many lessons from Dean's incredible life, but the payoff of hard work and dedication is one that he has proven true time and time again.
Not only did he lead a rich professional life, but Dean was also deeply philanthropic. He was a passionate advocate for the disabled community and served as a board member of Disabled & Alone, where he happily contributed his time and resources to help others in need.
Dean also had many hobbies. He loved golf trips, afternoons on the local country club course with his friends and perfecting his game. Another great joy was caring for one of his most prized possessions; his 40th anniversary Mustang Convertible. While the manual may say "2004" Dean was so meticulous about caring for it that the car looked like it had just rolled off the lot! His grandson Dallas fondly recalls rides with the top down, and it has served as a great comfort to his son, Wes, taking it for a cruise now and then since his passing.
While Dean had many passions in life, none compared to his love for his wife of 68 years, Louise – the only one to ever call him "Dino." Together, they built a life full of love, devotion, and family. Their two children, Wes and Sonya, brought immeasurable joy and so much laughter. They were later blessed with three beloved grandchildren – this is when Dean received his favorite title yet: PopPop. The nickname stuck like glue, soon he was "PopPop" to everyone!
Dean was known for his quick wit and perfectly timed dry sense of humor. If you weren't paying close attention, you might miss a joke and there is nothing worse than missing a Dean Parker moment of comedic brilliance. His corny "dad jokes" could charm anyone, from waitstaff to stoic strangers, no one was safe from cracking a smile.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Louise, his children, Wes Parker (Katie) and Sonya Parker; his grandchildren, Brooke Elizabeth Parker, Dallas Daniel Parker, Sydney Parker Stanley; and his siblings, Frances Painter, Nancy Templeton, and Alice Whitaker.
While we will miss Dean's humor and his larger-than-life presence, what we will miss most is his warmth and kindness. He had a deep love for his family and never let too much time pass without reminding them how much he loved and cared for them. He was endlessly proud of his grandchildren and made sure to express it often. Let us honor his legacy by working hard, showing compassion for others, and never missing an opportunity to say, "I love you."
A memorial service to celebrate Dean's life will be held at Craig Funeral Home in St. Augustine on November 7 at 5:00 PM.
