Daniel A. Plachinski
Daniel, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home on August 30, 2023.
Born in Wauwatosa at County General Hospital on July 7, 1935 to Wenzel and Edna Plachinski, Daniel was the youngest of eight children and was a twin with his brother George (who would later be ordained as a Franciscan priest and take the name of Rev. Urban Plachinski). He lived, was raised and worked in Cudahy. He attended Cudahy Senior High School. He played football while attending Cudahy Senior High and worked a part time job at A&P Grocery Store. He graduated in 1953.
Following high school, he continued to work for A&P Grocery until being hired at the Meyer company, where he was a carpenter's assistant.
He met his wife Anna (Macek) at the Dutchland Dairy in Cudahy in 1955. They were married on October 13, 1956 and were married for nearly 67 years at the time of his passing.
He was drafted into the Army in February 1958 and honorably discharged February 1960. During his active duty, he managed the office and became an extremely proficient typist. He was awarded the Good Conduct medal and Marksmen Badge (Rifle).
Daniel started to work for the Cudahy Department of Public Works in 1965 and remained employed there until his retirement in January 1998.
Daniel loved photography. He was perfectionist and would only make you hold a pose for what seemed like eternity, followed by "hold still for just one more shot." He enjoyed wood-working, collecting coins and stamps, and taking care of his house and lawn. He also loved packing up the car and taking the family to a near by lake such as Lake Beulah or Browns Lake.
He and his wife enjoyed traveling during his initial retirement years. Traveling by bus across the country to California, Tennessee, Colorado, and several other states; and even crossing the border into Canada. They enjoyed a trip to West Germany and Austria. They loved going to the north woods of Wisconsin, spending many years at the cottage on Squaw Lake in Minocqua. They also enjoyed going to the casinos, whether by bus or car. You could always find Daniel playing Sun and Moon!
Daniel and Anna raised 6 children together. He is survived by all of his children Mike (late Kathleen), Pete, Joe (Katie), Steve (Sue), Sue (Chris) Kuklinski, and John (Laura). He also had 14 wonderful grandchildren; Allison, Lauren, Zachary (Kayla), Jake, Bethany, Ashley (Adam), Rebecca, Emily, Leah, Sarah, Nicholas, Amanda, Sam, and Ellie.
Daniel is preceded in death by his parents Wenzel and Edna Plachinski, and all seven of his siblings (youngest to oldest); Rev. Urban Plachinski, Olga Plevak, Frank (Fritz) Plachinski, Rose Muening, Alois Plachinski, Wanda Durnait, and John Plachinski. Further survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Margie.
Everyone should just "settle down" and enjoy life!
The family would like to send a special thank you to Moments Hospice; especially Taylor and Anna, who helped and cared for Daniel during his final days.
Please join the family for Visitation on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 9:00 AM until time of his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus in St. Francis followed by his final resting place with Military Honors at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.
After the service, all are welcome to join the family at Pulaski Inn at 3900 E Pulaski Avenue in Cudahy, Wisconsin to continue to celebrate Daniel's life.
Donations to St Jude's Childrens' Hospital or the Franciscan Friars of Pulaski in Daniel's name are greatly appreciated.
