REID, Daniel J. - age 56, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, and was greeted in heaven by his loving mother. In accordance with his wishes, cremation will be taking place. A Celebration of Daniel's Life will be held at a later date to honor his memory.
Daniel was born September 9, 1968, in Flint, Michigan, to James and Linda (Grabenhorst) Reid. He graduated from Lakeville High School and worked as a driver for UPS for 15 years. Throughout his life, Dan was a talented chef who brought his culinary skills to several restaurants, including Kathy's in Flushing, Scotty's, and the Grand Traverse Dinner Train in Traverse City. But it was cooking for his family and friends that truly brought him joy. Whether enjoying backyard cookouts or holidays with loved ones, Dan's love language was through food and his way of connecting with others and creating memories. Dan had a gift for making everyone feel like a friend, and he was never short on great stories to tell. A true "gentle giant" with a heart as big as his stature, he was never too busy to lend a hand, especially when it came to helping children. His love for children was especially evident in his volunteer work with First Beginnings, where he helped underprivileged youth, showing them kindness and compassion. Dan loved the excitement of friendly competition, whether it was playing poker, enjoying a round of bingo, or watching NASCAR. He was a loyal supporter of the Detroit Lions and Michigan State Spartans, always cheering them on with enthusiasm. Above all, Dan loved spending time with his family and adored his beloved dog, Caroline.
Surviving are: Son, Dakota Beck; Father, Jim Reid; Sister, Lindsey (John) Price, and their child, Morgan; Brothers: Joe (Christie) Fox, and Mike (Lacey) Fox, and their children, Jack and Henry; Uncles and aunts: Ted (Betty) Grabenhorst, Diane Shifflet, John Reid, Bobbie Williamson, and Jeanne Aumaughter; Former wife, Lannette (Mauricio) Reid; Cousins: Jodi, Donald, Gennifer, Robin, Greg, Nik, Sam, and Steph; Many other loving family members and dear friends.
