Daniel Schaertel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anthony Funeral & Cremation Chapels - Webster Chapel on Sep. 11, 2025.

Daniel Paul Schaertel tragically passed away unexpectedly on September 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith and family.

He is predeceased by his father, Peter Schaertel, and his brother, David Schaertel. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Lisa; daughters, Holly (Kenny) Chatters, Kristen (Leif) Nielsen, and Lauren (Timothy) Smith; and eight cherished grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his mother, Irene Schaertel; sister, Lisa (Mark) Choma; brother, Timothy (Kathy) Schaertel; sister-in-law, Maria Schaertel; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Family was everything to Dan. He never failed to show up for those he loved.

Dan was a software engineer by trade, a thinker by nature, and a creative at heart. He solved problems big and small for his family. But beyond his logical mind, and inquisitive spirit, he spent countless hours enjoying the arts. He's a self-taught guitar player, stained glass maker, and poet. Even if he didn't have the words to say, he found a way to share his soul.

Dan was also a fan of fun. You could often find him cheering (and sometimes yelling) for the Raiders and the Cardinals. He enjoyed hikes with Lisa and exploring our many national parks. He even got to experience his grandkids' first national park visit this summer when he took the family to Cuyahoga Valley in Ohio. He also loved taste-testing bourbon with his friends. But his most beloved past-time was golf. It didn't matter how tired he was, or how miserable the weather was, he, his brother-in-law, and their friends would find their way to the golf course. One of his favorite possessions was his 1973 Corvette, his most prized gift, from his daughter and son-in-law. If you wonder how much he loved the vette, just ask his grandkids.

Most importantly, his faith was the foundation of his life. It gave him purpose and peace. Dan was a dedicated member of Community of the Savior in Rochester, where he served faithfully and generously. He found a home in that community. It was a space for him to study, worship, and serve those in need, like what he did in Guatemala and Rwanda. Dan was also dedicated to his Bible Study group of more than 25 years, meeting every Wednesday at 6 am.

Friends may call to the funeral chapel (1031 Ridge Rd., Webster) on Monday, September 15th, from 4–8 pm. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, September 16th, at Community of the Savior Church (4 East Henrietta Rd., Rochester).

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dan's memory to Community of the Savior: RuRu Connected Community in Rwanda (https://cosmthope.com/give).
