Daniel Sellars

Daniel Douglas Sellars was born November 3, 1934 in Columbus County N.C. He was the son of William Randal Sellars and Kathleen Bright Sellars. He was the youngest of six siblings, Willis Carr Sellars (Teva), Virginia Otra Sellars Gilbert (Davis), Bayard Bellamy Sellars (Margo), Lucille Sellars Sweany (Donald), and William Melton Sellars (Bobbie Lou). Dan passed away with his beloved wife and cherished son by his side on February 12, 2026 to be greeted by his eternal family in Heaven.

After graduating from Bolivia High School in Bolivia, NC he enlisted in the U.S. Airforce and served as an Airtraffic Controller in Japan. While working in Florida at Pratt & Whitney he met the love of his life, June Bell Ritchey. They were married on May 28th, 1966 to start 59 years of wonderful experiences. They both loved the ocean and made many trips to the beach. They eventually moved from Florida to Ayden NC, where he started work at Texas Gulf Phosphate. He was employed there until his retirement.

Dan was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving proudly in many capacities. He was a member of the local American Legion Post #289 and was very active in the community including serving as the President of the Annual Collard Festival Committee and participating on the Committee for many years.

He enjoyed sponsoring annual events at his home. The spring pig pickin' D.I.G.A (Dining in the Garden of Ayden) and B.O.B (Breakfast Out Back) which was held before walking down to the Collard Festival parade. Dan loved entertaining and often had family and friends at his home from near and far.

Dan and June were blessed with one son, Jon Douglas Sellars (Bang). Dan's only grandson is also named Daniel Douglas Sellars. He loved going to his namesake's ice hockey games at every opportunity and was tremendously proud of him.

He is survived by his loving wife, June, his son Jon (Bang), grandson Daniel and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family of dear friends.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Farmers Funeral Service in Ayden, NC and are as follows: On Tuesday February 17th. Visitation at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Greenville, NC are from 1:00 -2:00pm, followed by Church service in the Chapel. Burial procession will leave after the service with internment at the Ayden Cemetery.
