Daniel A. Shade Sr.

Daniel A. Shade, Sr., age 83, of Erie passed away on February 7, 2025. He was born in Clearfield, Pa. on March 10, 1941, a son of the late Richard and Julia (Fauver) Shade.
Dan was a graduate of Cathedral Prep and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Gannon University. He worked as a founding manager of Kraft Lumber for over 40 years.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Dan was known for his physical presence and charming smile. He had a deep appreciation for family, and the home he and Judy created was a gathering place filled with love, family, friends and humor. He had a sharp intellect and passed his love for books and music to his children. He sang in the St. George church choir.
Dan loved sports and was an accomplished athlete, competing in football, baseball and basketball in his teen years. He was a respected and inspiring coach and was a tough competitor, leading and mentoring youth football, baseball and soccer teams. In later years, he coached, played for and managed the Erie Codgers softball team. He also enjoyed golf and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers and Indians.
Dan was respected for his leadership and held many positions in professional organizations over the years. Dan shared a special relationship with his brother Tom, creating a brotherly bond that extended through work, sports, family and a circle of professional relationships. Dan also had a close group of friends that provided friendship, companionship and support throughout the years. Their love and kindness will always be remembered and cherished.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and junior high school sweetheart Judith (Craig) Shade in 2023 and siblings, Richard J. Shade, Mercedes Shade Kalata and Julia Shade.
He is survived by his children, Laurie A. Shade Yori, husband Matthew of Erie, Dr. Daniel A. Shade, Jr., partner Jamie Super of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren Jack Shade, wife Elena of Greenville, SC and Dr. Colette Yori Tobia, husband Frank of Erie; and great grandsons Frankie and Matthew Tobia both of Erie. Dan is also survived by a brother, Thomas E. Shade of Erie and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at St. George Church, 5145 Peach Street, on Thursday, February 13th, from 9:00am until the funeral Mass at 10:00am. Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street is assisting with arrangements.
