Daniel Mark Shapiro, age 78, passed away in his home in Lawrenceville, Georgia on January 1, 2026. He was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Dan is survived by his wife of 53 years Jean, his daughter Amanda Nicolosi (Joseph), his grandson Alexander, his sister Betsy Shapiro (Bill Joye), alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Meyer ("Mike") and Honey Shapiro. Dan was born in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Beachwood High School in 1965. He attended the University of Cincinnati and graduated from Kent State University in 1971. Dan later became a salesman and moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1976. Throughout his adult life, Dan was an accomplished martial artist and instructor, holding a first degree black belt in Shotokan Karate and a fifth degree black belt in Isshin-Ryu Karate. Later in life, he practiced and taught Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, achieving a brown belt. Some of his other great loves were racquetball, music, playing guitar, photography, and reading. Dan was a just and fair man who fostered many lifelong friendships wherever he went. He had a huge and compassionate heart with a deep love for animals. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell a good joke. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, and this obituary will be updated when the dates and times are known.
