Daniel Sipkema Jr., age 91, of Fair Oaks, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Born on June 19, 1934, in Fair Oaks, Dan was the son of Daniel and Grace (Hoffman) Sipkema. A lifelong farmer, Dan began working the family farm as a young boy and remained deeply committed to it throughout his life. He married Ruth Coberly on April 8, 1955, and they shared 64 years of marriage before her passing on October 22, 2019.
Dan was a devoted member of American Reformed Church in DeMotte. His love for farming, especially dairy cattle, was evident to all who knew him. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren the traditions and hard work of farm life. Dan had a passion for 4-H, showing cows, and attending dairy shows, where he supported and encouraged the next generation of agriculturalists.
He is survived by his loving children: Diane Higgins, Daniel (Chris) Sipkema, Norma (Doug) DeVries, Norita (Bill) Dykstra, Melissa (Vince) Profrock, Mike (Tiffany) Sipkema, and Scott (Amy) Sipkema; along with 53 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Dan also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who cherished his wisdom and warmth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Ruth; sisters, Mildred Sipkema and Sadie Myers; brothers, Bill and Bob (Alma) Sipkema; sons-in-law, Richard Higgins and Jeff Dunlap; daughter-in-law, Dawn Sipkema and grandson, Bradley Dykstra.
Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Jackson Funeral Service of DeMotte. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM at American Reformed Church of DeMotte with Pastor Bill Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Holland Cemetery.
Dan's legacy of faith, hard work, and love for family will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
