I had the opportunity to attend several SWBA field trips with Dan. He was extremely helpful to me in learning new butterflies. He was always so willing to help others in these pursuits. I recall one time when the group had gotten split into several smaller groups. We met back up with Dan, who told us of a butterfly he had located. One of the group said "Wow, I'd like to see that". It would have been so easy to say "I'm sure it's long gone by now" (which was the realistic response). But not Dan. "Let's go find it." And he led us back to where he had seen it, and he spent literally 1/2 hour looking in the area where it had been seen. Although we never did relocate it, I was touched by his willingness to spend the time helping another person find something they hadn't seen before. But he was that way all the time. I'm sure I drove him nuts at times with all my questions, but he always took the time to answer and try to help me learn more. What a wonderful man, and what a loss to the butterfly community.

One of the first to make us welcome to Wisconsin and his kindnesses continued. Shared all too many Bass Pro Shop, Cabelas, Wal Mart adventures (but we laughed the whole time). Provided a true example of living a Christian life, being a Father & Husband, enjoying nature and being a friend. Rest in peace Bro Dan

thirty-plus New Year Eves, man earrings, cribbage, euchre, apples to apples, hula hoop silliness, diaper runs, unmitigated kindness, inability to judge, willingness to do ANYTHING for another, endless you know you're from Wisconsin jokes, oddball humor, star trek, being able to see spots on butterflies, bass fishing, trout stops, adoration of family, funky Christmas card photos, berry pies, bottomless faith...see you up there

Known Dan since grade school. We traded many hunting stores on face book. I have a memory of him and his brothers walking up that long driveway to meet the bus. He will always be in my memory. He will be dearly missed.
