Daniel Lee Tate, age 76, of Chillicothe, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024 at his home.
Dan was born on January 20, 1948 in Peoria, IL to William and Edna "Tootsie" (Lawson) Tate. He married Kathleen Irions in 1968 in Peoria and together they had two children. He later married Sharon Sarver Rogers in 1992 in Chillicothe.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon, of Chillicothe; his son, Richard "Ric" Tate of Chillicothe; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marcia Lee "Missy" Carroll; his parents and two brothers.
Dan was a mechanic for Caterpillar for over 30 years, retiring in 1999, soon after he accepted the role of building maintenance at City Hall in Chillicothe from 2001 to 2014. He spent his spare time assisting Geiger's True Value Hardware with servicing, repairing and maintaining all of their small engine rental equipment. He was a member of the Chillicothe Fire Department for many years, operating out of Station 4 in Rome, was a 50 year member of the George Washington Masonic Lodge #222 AF & AM, a 48 year member of the Valley of the Scottish Rite and the Mohammed Shrine. He also enjoyed antiquing.
Dan had a love for anything mechanical, understanding engines and motors. He enjoyed building hot rods as a hobby and loved attending the Indianapolis 500 and did so for several consecutive years. He had a sincere love of dogs and would cherish several in his lifetime. Dan also enjoyed camping and fishing, he would often take trips to Minnesota, and Wisconsin to enjoy the sport.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a there will be no services at this time. Arrangements are in the care of Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
