Daniel Paul Teal, 63, passed away peacefully after a long battle with dementia, with his family by his side on February 16, 2026 under the care of Lewis County Hospice.
Dan was born on August 26, 1962 at Lewis County General Hospital, the son of Robert and Jean Teal. He graduated from South Lewis Central School in 1980 and then went on to graduate from Morrisville State College in 1982 with an Associates degree in Business. He went on to work for Teal’s Express and was President of T&D Transportation for many years. Dan married Marcy L. Smith on August 12, 1989 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Lyons Falls, NY. Although their marriage ended in divorce, Marcy continued to be a part of his life and helped with his care.
Dan will be missed by his children Lucas Teal (Ashtin) of Lowville, Anna Kloster (Dylan) of Harrisville, parents Robert and Jean Teal of Lyons Falls, brother Robert Teal Jr. (Laurie) of Port Leyden, sisters Hope (Alan) Scouten of Port Leyden, Donna Skiff (Stephen) of Glenfield, and his grandchildren, Elliott, Leah, Eleanor, Iris, Carson and Lacey. He will also leave behind many nieces and nephews.
Dan was a dedicated fireman and fire investigator, serving for the Lyons Falls Fire Department before joining the Lowville Fire Department in 1990. He served many roles in his time as a firefighter. He acted as Chief for many years and served as Treasurer for 14 years. He received many awards during his time at Lowville including the Fireman of the Year Award in 2015. Luke and Anna enjoyed tagging along with Dad for fire calls, parades, and field days. Dad was a lifetime member of the Lowville Elks Lodge 1605, American Legion Post 162, a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Huckleberry Hunting Club and Matawan.
One of Dan’s favorite passions was riding snowmobiles. Whether it be with his buddies or leaving on a Saturday morning and going alone for a couple of hours. Dan was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed gardening and caring for his apple orchard. He enjoyed watching Syracuse sports and the NY Giants. Dan loved to watch his kids play sports throughout the years. He was always on the sidelines cheering, coaching pop warner, and giving the refs advice. Dad had a love for his grandkids and found peace within the chaos.
Luke and Anna would like to sincerely thank all of Dad’s caregivers throughout the years. Being able to keep him home through this journey was our biggest goal.
Calling hours will be held on February 20, 2026 from 11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm at Sundquist Funeral Home, 7676 N. State Street in Lowville. Immediately following will be a Celebration of Life at the Lowville Fire Department.
There will be a private burial at Wildwood Cemetery in the spring.
