Interment Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, New York
Daniel Patrick Traynor was born on August 11, 1947, to Henry & Mary Traynor (nee Sullivan) in Queens Village, New York. Danny was the sixth child born and there would be four more to follow, sooner than you would think.
Danny joined the Navy in September 1966. It was during this time Danny discovered his appreciation for Spain. That appreciation would continue for the rest of his life.
In 1968 Danny left the Navy and joined the New York City Police Department. During his time with the Police Department he met and married Mary Gordon, built a home in Highland Mills, NY and welcomed his two girls, Heather Ann and Erin Mary.
In 1980 Danny, Mary and their girls moved from Highland Mills, NY to Greenpoint Brooklyn.
Danny retired from the Police Department in 1983. And so began his long career at the many storied restaurants around New York City. The Plaza Hotel, The River Café, and Rosie O'Grady's to name a few.
In 1987 Danny and Mary decided to purchase a summer home on Long Beach and Danny took over the kitchen at The Plaza Beach Club in Atlantic Beach. It rained every weekend for the entire summer.
In 1992 Danny opened a Jazz Bar called The Squire.
In 1995 Danny took over a restaurant bar called Due South. Many amazing relationships were formed during his time at Due South. Due South was 10 blocks north of The World Trade Center. For weeks after 9/11 Danny would open Due South and wait for two phone calls. The phone calls were food orders; two hundred chicken sandwiches, two hundred and fifty cheeseburgers. The food was prepared and boxed up and Danny would deliver the food to the NYPD Muster station.
In 2005 Danny and Mary retired and settled in Long Beach. Danny spent his days golfing, feeding people, and assisting the AOH with their many events. You would always find Danny behind the grill with an icy cold Heineken. He enjoyed The Mets, attending Boxing matches with his nephews as well as friends and traveling the world with Mary.
Danny loved spending time with his 4 grandchildren Ainsley Haas, Andrew Ward, Caroline Haas and Bridget Haas. He never ran out of ideas when it came to planning adventures. He loved having dinner with Mary, his two daughters Heather and Erin and their husbands, Danny Ward and Dan Haas. Thanksgiving was his favorite Holiday. Every Thanksgiving, no matter where the girls were, Danny would call and remind them Alice's Restaurant would be on the radio at 12 noon.
Danny is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Mary Traynor, daughter's Heather Ward and Erin Haas, Son-in law Dan Haas, grandchildren Ainsley Haas, Andrew Ward, Caroline Haas and Bridget Haas.
Danny is predeceased by his beloved mother Mary Traynor nee Sullivan, Father Henry Traynor, Stepfather Andrew Traynor, brothers Hank, Bobby, Jimmy, Kevin, Michael, Brian and sister Anne Traynor, Son-in-law Danny Ward.

Danny was still in high school when I came here and I remember how he organized a dance to raise money for a class mates medical bills. He continued to help others in this way through the years.
My mother who was visiting at this time thought the world of him.
However, I still folded him up in the living room couch when I wanted to vacuum and he would`nt get up.
He did so much good in his own quiet way.
Love you and miss you Danny.
