Daniel Wehrstedt, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, at the age of 85 in Evansville, Indiana. Born on October 25, 1939, in Wadesville, Indiana, Daniel's life was a testament to hard work, dedication to family, and a passion for the simple joys in life.
Daniel spent his career as a coal miner with Peabody Coal, where his strong work ethic and commitment to his colleagues were evident. He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), advocating for the rights and safety of his fellow miners. His work in the mines and his involvement with the UMWA were significant parts of his life, demonstrating his belief in the value of perseverance and solidarity.
Beyond his professional life, Daniel was an avid woodworker, a hobby that allowed him to express his creativity and craftsmanship. His hands skillfully turned raw materials into beautiful and functional pieces that became cherished heirlooms within his family and community. This pastime brought him great joy and satisfaction, especially when he could share his creations with those he loved.
Daniel's legacy is carried on through his beloved wife, Jo Ann Wehrstedt, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and unwavering support. He was a loving father to his daughter, Cheri Carroll, and son, Daniel (Lisa). His wisdom and guidance were the foundation of their lives.
His role as a grandfather to Jason Michael Carroll (Anna), Eric Andrew Carroll (Miranda), Jennifer Ann Wehrstedt, and Christopher Paul Wehrstedt (Kayla) was one he cherished deeply. The stories and lessons he imparted will continue to resonate with them. The joy of his life expanded with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Arielli Price, Emma Kate Carden, Elias Carroll, and Zachary Carroll, who brought him immeasurable happiness. Daniel is also survived by his two younger sisters, Emma Lou Codling and Joyce M Parker.
Daniel's life was a beautiful mosaic of dedication, love, and service. His memory will be honored and celebrated by all those whose lives he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and integrity that will forever be etched in the hearts of his family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Friday, January 10, 2025 beginning at 10am, funeral service at 12noon with burial to immediately follow.
