Publish in a newspaper
Services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday August 28, 2025 at the Union Funeral Home with Dr. Brett Beasley officiating. Burial will be in the Tower Heights Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the funeral services from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. Military rites will be accorded by the United States Air Force Honor Guard, American Legion Post 1961 of Orient and Zeigler Post 177.
Memorials can be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Mr. Wilkerson spent his 26-year work career in various positions with Old Ben Coal Company, British Petroleum, and Zeigler Coal Company. Following retirement, he worked for the West Frankfort School District.
In 2016, he was thrilled to be selected as the 75th recipient of the Old King Coal award. He enjoyed his reign and made every effort to attend annual events. He was an Air Force veteran.
For 58 years, he was a Member of the American Legion Post 0280 in Benton, IL.
He was born April 13, 1939, to George Wilkerson and Mattie (Price) Wilkerson in Benton, IL.
He married Brenda Herrin on August 6, 1959. She preceded him in death. Later, he married Mary Jo Britton on July 1, 2000. She also preceded him in death.
Survivors include three children: Lori (Tom) Eubanks, Shelley Maberry, and Rick Wilkerson. Survivors also include three grandchildren and a special friend, Rosemary Westray.
His parents and both brothers preceded him in death.
