Danielle Kreeger

Danielle A. Kreeger, 63, of Media, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025
She was born December 8, 1962 in York, daughter of the late Austin R. Kreeger and the late Susan (Smeltzer) Diehl.
Danielle was many things in life - a parent, wife, family member and friend, scientist, teacher, mentor, black belt in karate, surfer, collector, and much more.
Professionally, she was an aquatic and marine ecologist with a well-rounded career in research, teaching, and environmental management. She received her PhD in 1992 from the Oregon State University Hatfield Marine Science Center. For the next 30-plus years, she studied the biology and "ecosystem services" of freshwater and saltwater habitats such as mussel beds and oyster reefs to promote resilience to climate change in places such as the Delaware Bay.
She was currently employed as an associate research professor at Drexel University/senior scientist at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel and a research scientist at the Rutgers University Haskin Shellfish Research Lab. She also became a visiting assistant professor at Bryn Mawr College in August 2025. Prior to these positions, she held leadership positions at the non-profit Partnership for the Delaware Estuary for close to 20 years.
She is survived by her wife, Karen Kreeger; their son, Austin W. Kreeger; her stepfather, Joseph Diehl, Jr. and wife Patti Diehl; her stepmother, Beverly Kreeger; and a sister, Wendy Torres.
In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Kerry Jo Harris.
